Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Product Description
If you like the look and feel of Nokia phones, but you've been waiting for a powerful clamshell design, the wait is over. The quad-band Nokia 6133 packs a serious punch with support for EDGE data, dual high-resolution color displays, a 1-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, microSD memory expansion, a music player, and a whole lot more. It's the perfect companion to T-Mobile service. It also supports T-Mobile's great myFaves service

Design
The 6133's super thin design houses an inner display that sports an impressive 240 x 320 resolution and support for 16.7 million, yes million colors. Meanwhile, the outside cover of the handset features a supplementary, 128 x 160, 262,000-color display that can display picture IDs, time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. You can even setup the external color screen to display a large analog clock.

The phone's camera unit is conveniently placed just above the external display, while the up and down buttons for volume control are placed on the left side, and a camera control button is placed on the right side of the phone. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's control pad, while an innovative press-to-open button allows for easy, one-handed opening of the clamshell device. There's also an input to accept universal hands-free headsets, and a USB port for transferring data to and from the handset. The hot-swappable microSD/TransFlash memory expansion slot is compatible with cards up to 2 GB of capacity.

Calling Features
The 6133 supports polyphonic ringtones, as well as video-based ringers so you can load your favorite video clips to alert you of incoming calls. Plus, with the phone's picture and ringer ID functions, you can assign pictures and ringtones to your most common callers. For when you need to be discreet, there's also a vibrate ringer mode. Meanwhile, speaker-independent voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names. The phone recognizes any voice, so you don't have to worry about pre-recording your commands. The 6133's phone book will keep track of all your contacts, and the address book capacity is only limited by the phone's 11 MB of built-in memory. Lastly, there's an integrated speakerphone for talking hands-free, and the phone's Bluetooth connectivity means that your favorite Bluetooth headset is fully compatible.

Other calling features include compatibility with T-Mobile's myFaves service, which allows you to call up to five of your most common contacts--on any network--without using any of your minutes. Learn more about myFaves.

Messaging, Internet and Tools
The 6133 is a mobile messaging and Internet powerhouse. With support for the MMS (multimedia messaging service), the phone can send picture and text messages, and when coupled with the phone's powerful camera, MMS opens up great opportunities for robust messaging. The phone ships with a built-in email client that supports POP3, IMAP, and SMTP protocols. You can even open and view email attachments.

Getting on the Internet is easy with the 6133. It supports the GPRS data protocol, as well as the high-speed EDGE wireless data service. When used with your carrier data plan and the phone's USB or Bluetooth data capability, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs. The phone is bundled with a mobile Web browser, too. Meanwhile, T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

The 6133 supports PC synchronization via USB or Bluetooth, which means you can manage and synchronize contacts, calendar and other data with your PC. Nokia's PC Suite application makes this process a breeze. A number of handy software tools are bundled with the 6133 including a voice memo recorder, a calculator, a calendar, a to-do list, and an alarm clock.

Imaging and Entertainment
This is where the real fun begins. The 6133's 1-megapixel camera takes great pictures and it can also capture video. And when you've got all the pictures you want on your memory card, you can connect the camera directly to any PictBridge-compatible printer for instantaneous printing right from the phone. The phone supports playback of streaming video in 3GPP format, too.

If mobile music is your thing, you can load up your MP3, MP4, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, and WMA audio files and listen to your heart's content via the stereo headset jack. And don't forget about the games! The phone comes with a perennial favorite, Snake, as well as 3D soccer.

Vital Statistics
The Nokia 6133 weighs 3.95 ounces and measures 3.61 x 1.88 x 0.79 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3.4 hours of digital talk time, and up to 240 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

5 out of 5 stars Great mid-level phone with upper-level features!   July 30, 2008
This phone does it all.

I take pictures with it, make my own ringtones with it from my own mp3 collection, take video and upload it to my computer and email to family and friends, sync the calendar with Google Calendar and get text message reminders before any appt., and the call quality is great too.

I even use the note feature to keep important numbers and addresses, such as my employee number at work or my new address when I moved and didn't have it memorized yet.

And if I'm bored, I open the phone and play a game of tetris, which is an add on, but still...

If you don't want to commit to the high-priced top-tier phones, then this is the phone for you. The keys are wide and the screen is large, which makes text messaging a pleasure.

Another cool feature is that if you give PowerPoints, like I do, (I'm a teacher) then you can sync the phone with your computer and use it as a clicker to move from slide to slide. I'm not married to my computer anymore. I can move around the room and give my lesson from the PowerPoint. Cool, huh?

Go get this phone.

1 out of 5 stars Not so great   July 5, 2008

Nokia was my first phone and since then I have always wanted to return to Nokia because it was a great phone from all perspectives. I bought this one and quickly realized that Nokia is NO LONGER a user-friendly phone. I am not going into the details but setting options is SO complicated. Also, the front display glass broke the first time I dropped it - so it is fragile. Anyways, it is been sitting on my shelf after 1 month of use.

1 out of 5 stars Phone fell apart - LITERALLY!   June 6, 2008

The glue/binding that held the metal frame down around the screen started coming out and now the metal frame sticks up and will stab me in the cheek if I don't super glue it down every couple of weeks. Nokia/T-Mobile will not cover because it is cosmetic damage. Yes it is but I didn't do anything to cause it. Sound quailty is poor to terrible. Screen lighting is poor to terrible and features are not at all intuitive. Camera is simply awful. Pictures come out grainy no matter what. I'm in phone hell for 16 more months or until I break down and buy a new phone w/o contract discount.

1 out of 5 stars Not a good phone for anyone   May 8, 2008

I probably spend less than 2 hours a day on the phone, but the battery on this phone only lasted a day and a half. The speaker only worked 90% of the time, I could not make conference calls (not without incredibly loud and irritating noises over the speaker), it would not recognize bluetooth headsets as it should, the camera was constantly turning on in my pocket, and the physical design of the phone meant it was constantly pulling out whiskers from my cheek, no matter how close I shaved. I returned the phone to T-Mobile after a week. Save yourself the trouble and get a different phone. I ended up with a Motorola V195. It's a great basic phone. No camera, no mp3 player, but it has every phone-related option that a phone should have.

I like this phone but I'm on 3rd one using warranty and still over a year on phone plan. All have the same problem, display (both) stop working and all I have is a blank screen. Now warranty is up and I have to buy them, should take another 5 or so till plan is up
