Amazon.com Review Many outdoor chefs swear by charcoal for the smoky, old-school flavor it lends to meat--but no one likes the mess or the hassle of starting the coals, or the chemical aftertaste that lighter fluid can leave. The Performer's Touch-n-Go ignition system uses liquid propane to light charcoal briquets with just the touch of a button. Once the coals are white-hot, you're ready to cook. Even cleaning up afterwards won't get your hands dirty, thanks to Weber's patented One-Touch cleaning system--a simple sweep of a lever pushes ashes into a removable catch pan for quick and easy disposal. The Performer's exceptionally-durable construction includes a rust-resistant, porcelain-enameled steel bowl and lid. Heavy-duty, hinged grates made from plated steel offer easy access to the classic kettle-shaped bowl when it's time to add briquets to the fire. A dual-purpose thermometer allows cooks to monitor the temperature inside the grill, then removes to test meat for doneness. A Tuck-Away holder holds the lid conveniently out of the way plus provides a windscreen for lighting. Rugged, weather-resistant wheels are crack-proof in the most extreme temperatures and allow easy transport, while locking casters prevent the grill from rolling while you cook. Rust-free aluminum vents adjust to provide perfect airflow in changing conditions. An integrated storage container keeps up to 20 pounds of charcoal dry and within reach, and the granite-look Thermoset work surface provides a handy place to store marinades and sauces while you cook. Also included are welded steel charcoal fuel holders that facilitate cooking with direct or indirect heat. The assembled unit measures 40 by 50-1/4 by 28-1/2 inches, with a 22-1/2 inch cooking surface. Bowl, handles, lid, and One-Touch cleaning system are covered by a 10-year warranty; cooking grate and charcoal baskets have a 1-year warranty; and the burner assembly, hose, test valve, and regulator have a 3-year guarantee. Weber grills are made in the USA.--Mary Park

An outdoor kitchen at a reasonable price September 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Like many reviewers, I've looked at gas grills and been turned off by the flavor and their higher prices. Still, the concept of an outdoor kitchen for preparing, grilling and assembling meals was an appealing one. When I came upon this grill, it seemed like the perfect blend of convenience and performance. The grill surface itself is a lot bigger than my old 18 1/2" Weber, the work surface is extensive, and the gas ignition promised to simplify the most time-consuming and nerve-wracking part of the whole process.
My wife and I bought one from Crate and Barrel this weekend and tried it out, and it worked like a charm. I made a pork tenderloin from a Bobby Flay recipe that used both a glaze and a mojo. After heating the mojo on the stovetop, I brought the saucepan outside and set it right on the Thermoset work surface. My wife was worried that I'd just ruined our brand new grill, but I picked up the saucepan and you couldn't even tell it had been there. Awesome! Even with two bowls on the tabletop, there was still plenty of room for a big cutting board and a plate, so I was able to slice the tenderloin, transfer it to the plate, and bring it to the table ready to eat.
The best thing about this grill is that, because it's so easy to start and there's so much space, it makes you want to grill more and try new recipes. Kudos to Weber for a five-star, American-made product!

It's awesome, just buy it. I actually got mine from Crate and Barrels. Same price and it came in a funky green color my wife liked.
So far, so good August 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've used the grill three times and been pretty happy with it. I've been using natural charcoal, and I'm still learning how to control the heat. It gets real hot at first and then cools down quickly. But this grill makes it possible to add more charcoal.
Assembly was fairly simmple. It took me about an hour. But some words on the instruction sheets would have been helpful. I made a few mistakes and had to take things apart and redo them.
Starting up the grill couldn't be simpler. Just dump in the charcoal and press the igniter button. It will be ready for grilling quickly - not quite as fast as a gas grill, but quickly enough. And the smokey flavor makes it well worth the extra few minutes.
Perfect combo August 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was looking at, and reviewing, gas grills for months but was so hesitant to spend the money because, despite the convenience and cool looks of a shiny stainless grill, I knew from experiences at bbq's at friends and family, that the food just tasted like it was cooked in the kitchen and warmed outside. I missed the charcoal flavor of my youth. So when I fell upon a review of the performer, I couldn't believe it. As soon as I saw the gas ignition, I was sold. And then the charcoal storage bin, lid holder, ash can, and large table really got me excited. I would have spent MORE than 300 for this thing. It's like I found my soulmate. Assembly took MAYBE 20 minutes. The fact that the instructions are not written is a clue to how simple it is. (Why didn't someone tell LV51 (Dec '07) that the casters SNAP into place? They do not fall off.) The ONLY drawback is that you have to wait quite a while, unlike gas grills, for the thing to cool down before putting the cover on. Regardless, I give this thing 6 stars.
This is one sweet grill! July 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am sooo so glad I bought this :)
I gave this to my boyfriend as his Father's Day gift and he's been grilling with it nearly every day!
Assembly was a breeze. I was able to put it together by myself in under an hour - no problems whatsoever. Very intuitive design, easy to use, cooks great - no complaints! I don't think my boyfriend will EVER go back to gas grillin' thanks to the Performer. If I could give this 10 stars I would. Best buy of the summer!!!
