Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Do alot of laundry? The Rowenta DG5030 Pressure Iron and Steamer is designed for a busy family looking to get the most efficiency from an iron. Let's face it, nobody really enjoys ironing. This model makes it easier. The powerful vertical steam option allows the iron to be used in an upright position to remove wrinkles from hanging garments, including curtains, drapes and slipcovers. The steamer has variable steam control so output levels can be adjusted to fabric type. It has a ergonomic trigger for immediate powerful steam. The steam is distributed through a 6 foot long steam cord for optimal versatility. The water capacity is extra large, at 33-ounces., for up to 1.5 hours of uninterrupted use. A 12 foot long electrical cord provides greater convenience and the compact base fits most ironing boards. Nonstick, stainless-steel soleplate seems to glide without friction over fabrics. Iron rest for convenient storage of iron during use, secured position during transport Variable Steam Control lets you adjust steam to output to fabric types, powerful steam for thick, heavy fabrics or light steam for delicate fabrics 9 foot long steam cord for versatility

1 out of 5 stars Don't buy it!   December 19, 2008

We have owned this iron for about a year; bought it from Amazon. When it worked, it was great, especially for doing lots of ironing at once. But, it has had a chronic leaking problem, with water seeming to end up on the floor right under where I am ironing so I invariably dragged a just ironed sleeve through a puddle of water. Lack of tank gauge window was not a big deal, and you needed to keep it full for good results. However, today the switch went out and it is dead. Horrible product!

2 out of 5 stars Very disappointed   December 4, 2008
After doing without an iron for many years, I bought this iron on the strength of the Amazon reviews. But I've been extremely disappointed. The iron sputters all the time, you can't see how much water is left, it's scary to refill if you've used the iron recently (you have to make sure to expel all the steam). Moreover, the instructions are lousy.

I mistakenly thought I was getting what I paid for, and I've never before paid for such an expensive iron.

5 out of 5 stars Just as good as my Sargent Steam Machine   December 1, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

I own a large steam machine that cleans everything. I have had it for years and love it. It came with an iron attachment that just broke. I contacted the company but they no longer make parts for my older machine and I would need to spend $250 to buy a new iron or $400 for a standalone iron. I knew I wanted an iron that had pressurized steam because my other machine was fabulous and fast. Instead of springing the extra money for that brand I decided to try this iron. I had nothing to lose, I could just return it if I didn't like it. It came today and I have ironed all morning (I was behind). I have found it to be just as good as my steam machine iron attachment and it seems to sputter less water. I have only used it once so it may not be a fair judgement but as for pure ironing ability, it is fabulous. I was spoiled before because the steam machine cut my ironing time by 60-75%. I was sceptical that this could do the same but so far it is keeping up. Ironing with a regular iron is like going back to dial-up internet after having high speed. It is painful. Before, I never ironed until I needed to wear something because it was such a chore. Now I iron almost everything (no sheets or socks). My husband has to have a shirt everyday and I live 20 minutes from a dry cleaner so I took on the task and it is no problem to keep up. My children and I look more polished and being slightly overweight, it helps me feel more confident to look put together with ironed clothes. My husband also has some skin sensitivities to cleaners and chemicals. The pressurized steam makes it so I don't need to use starch. They certainly aren't as stiff as they would be with starch but his shirts look as crisp. I love it.

2 out of 5 stars Great iron, but the lack of a water level is its downfall   October 25, 2008
I like the iron. It does a great job on even the gentlest of fabrics!

Though, I do iron in large quantities and the lack of a water level is the product's downfall. I followed the instructions on how to refill the chamber while in use, but it still was dangerous and not worth it. I used up whatever steam was left in the unit, then let it cool and unplugged it too. According to the rather simple directions, this should have sufficed. Though, when slowly unscrewing the cap, a loud shriek came out of the unit and nearly burned me. Now, I've worked with professional models as a tailor over the years, but this was the worst near accident that I've ever had. Granted, this may have been my own fault, but I clearly did what I had to do and again, there was no way to tell how much steam and or water was left.

I find myself using this iron for only part of my ironing until deciding to revert back to my old reliable one.

5 out of 5 stars Great Product   October 3, 2008

This iron is perfect for my purposes - quilting. My only reservation is that there should be a see thru window to determine how much water is in the tank. Other than that, I think it's great.
