Can not recommend January 8, 2009 We are on our second machine. The first lasted 30 days. Then it stopped. We spent along period of time on the phone with customer no-service. Eventually, they agreed to ship a replacement. The replacement died on its 3rd use - same problem.
The concept is fantastic and, when it worked, it was fabulous; well worth the money. But I expect a product to last longer than that!!
Works great January 8, 2009 It's been great at removing pet stains! The actual cleaning area is around 8" so it's definitely a "spot" bot. It will absolutely go to town on troublesome stains before you freshen up an entire room with an upright. This is small, fast, and convenient. I don't mind bringing it out for a quick clean up whereas I wouldn't have bothered dragging out my Hoover upright.
If you're carpet is dirty in general, you are going to have a lot of "clean circles" from using it. If your have to, rent or buy an upright to clean everything well then use this for the little stuff. It does leave the area wetter than I'd like however it's about the same as my upright so it's far from a deal breaker.
The clean and dirty water containers are somewhat flexible. The tanks on my Hoover upright are a rigid, hard plastic that could easily break from a drop at waist height. It's a small thing but something to consider.
Be sure and rinse the lid of the clean tank after each use. The cleaners can dry out the rubber gasket over time.
If I was looking for an improvement it would be a 10 or 12" cleaning area. One very minor improvement would be the clean water tank. It is shaped like a quarter of a circle which looks nice aesthetically however when filling it you have to hold it in one hand while the other controls the faucet for water, filling with cleaning solution, and adding the Oxy clean stuff for wine stains and such. If it was flat on top it could be set on the counter upside down freeing up both hands to unscrew the cleaning bottles for filling and such.
performs as advertised December 21, 2008 We got this to do spot cleanup after our sick cat. It does the job. Keep an eye on the dirty water tank, if it gets to the full line then suction stops and you'll end up with a big wet spot. Save money and don't buy the "dedicated" cleaners, a little oxygen bleach concentrate and straight detergent will work even better.
Only one "problem" - not having deep cleaned the rest of the carpet in the last few years, we now have little clean circles scattered around the floor where we've used this guy. Now I have to get a full size cleaner for a weekend!
When I first took mine out of the box, it wasn't spraying. I call the 1-800 line, they walked me though some steps, and it works perfectly now.
my favorite appliance December 17, 2008 My SpotBot is my favorite appliance. With four cats, and a fully carpeted apartment I'm sure you can imagine that there are some 'accidents'. The SpotBot has been a wonderful tool to help get the messes, without the hassle and expense of borrowing/renting a big steam cleaner. Just ordered one for my mother-in-law after she heard my praise of it and saw how effectively it worked.
I highly recommend this product. I've used it for animal messes, but also to clean upholstery, stairs, food stains, and tricky furniture.
Pros: * easy, handheld, portable! * does the work of scrubbing without me having to be on my knees doing it myself * gets rid of fresh or older, set in stains * cleans effectively using just hot water (on those instances where I haven't replenished my soap supply)
Cons: * showed us how dirty the rest of our carpet was as we started noticing 'spots' of clean carpet. Had to get a big carpet cleaner to even things out. (not really a bad thing...lol) * soap can be expensive, and occasionally hard to find. I NEVER use the full amount of soap suggested, having found that the Bot will work very effectively with less. * after six years of heavy use - usually a few times a week at least - with four cats, the brush motor finally gave out. Based on the repair estimate, I elected to order a new one instead - part plus labor was nearly the cost of brand new.
Looking forward to my new 'Bot!
Great......for awhile December 13, 2008 I purchased this little machine about a year ago. I tried it out on a pet stain. I set it and left it and when I came back, there was a puddle of water. I used the hand held to clean it up and that worked great so that's what I stuck with. Overall, I use the Spot Bot for the small stains - spills, pet accidents, and the stairs - stuff like that. It worked great for awhile and I used this machine frequently as it's small, light weight and easier than dragging out the big machine. And - it cleaned very, very well. Lately, I've been noticing that stains are not coming out as well as they used to - not to mention the container that you place the water and cleaner in - leaks. It's a good machine but I think for heavy use - it's not going to last.
