A kitchen stool that helps the elderly April 11, 2008

My mom is elderly and because of numerous medical problems is unable to walk very far in the house without sitting down. This chair/stool works great for her. It is high enough up that she doesn't have a great deal of trouble getting back up on her feet. The wide seat make her feel more secure while she it sitting. It is also a manageable weight to move to different parts of the kitchen. The one down side is that it needs to be put together. The instructions are clear, but you have to make sure you follow them EXACTLY and use the right size bolt for the task you are currently doing. Mom has two of these chairs and really loves the mobility they allow her to have. Make sure that you stand on the bottom step before the bolts are completely tightened to cause the steps and frame to settle and minimize chair wobble.

This combo chair/stool is a duplicate of the stool that my family has used for almost twenty years, so it is easy to recommend. It is a bit heavier but also much sturdier and stable. It is ideal for the small kitchen as long as you remember that the seat is part of the chair and not a third step. :)

I have owned the same model since 1995, it lasted this long giving a very good service.
So I decided to purchase a new unit now in 2007 to replace the old one, mostly for aesthetic reasons. I can see the design has been notoriously improved. So I presume that if the last one lasted 12 years, this one will last at least 15.
It is very easy to assemble, comes with simple to follow instructions, all pieces fit neatly together.

I am very pleased with my purchase of the Cosco Lift Seat Stool. It was easy to put together and is just like it was described in the ad in Amazon.com I am sure anyone buying this item will get a lot of use from it.
