Good water filter August 19, 2008 Read lot of reviews on amazon and finally bought this one. Came with good instructions and it filters the water very fast. The water did taste better!
All I can say is WOW!! August 10, 2008 This water dispenser has been a life and money saver. We have hard municipal well water that smells like chlorine and has a yellow tinge of color to it. I would never drink straight tap water, only tap water mixed with an iced tea mix or something. I used to get up at night and have pop or juice.
I wanted to start drinking more water. When I went to Washington D.C. in July, it was so hot, I got hooked on bottled drinking water. When I realized how many bottles I was buying and how bad the plastic is for the environment, I said that when I get home I will research some type of water filter for the home.
I got a good deal on this pitcher at Amazon. I'm really happy I have fresh, healthy, cold, odorless water to drink. I use the water for cooking, coffee, for the pets, and for the houseplants. What a HUGE difference from tap water.
good filtering solution. August 5, 2008 it seems to be better than Brita, which I used earlier. The water is very well filtered and taste as most of the mineral water from the bottle. I recommend this product though I give it only 4 stars, because the lid does not have a latch or something to keep it in place better, and though the form factor is very slim, the container is a little too deep and it hardly fit in a Subzero fridge.
Great for use with a well only! August 5, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
It's really important to note what one of the other reviewers here said regarding the fact that on the Pur website, they say that this will not filter out "beneficial flouride!" If you are on a well, this is not a problem since flouride isn't being introduced to your water. For the price of this filter, I am aware that many contaminants are not going to be filtered as with an expensive, whole-house system. Since most of us aren't in the position for those, we need to at least do something to get off this bottled water and to filter our tap as best we can.
I believe there is not one single more important thing that we can do for our health but to drink more healthy water each day. If you google "flouride dangers" you will be amazed at what you find if you haven't already educated yourself. I am not sure what filters do take care of flouride at the lower end of the cost spectrum but reverse osmosis is one (though some say this isn't good either...I'm still researching). Just suggesting that you keep researching for yourself and dig deeper if you have young children because our food and water is increasingly dangerous and we are seeing how young they are getting sicker. I like this dispenser and feel it is okay for getting some of the worst stuff out but would only use it with a well and not with city water. I hope Pur will soon wake up and develop one that takes the flouride out.
ca-ching every time I walk thru the bottled water aisle August 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Held off three months before scribing this. First impressions may be wrong impressions. Second, shipping issues aren't product performance. And there weren't any here. The product performance exceeds expectations. Hometown water is municipal well water. Not bad really but not to die for or from either. So we were a bottled water clan. Gallons, quarts, liters, half liters, you get the picture. Buy the water, clutter the landfill, worry about the plastic leachate etc. Well, most of that is resolved here. Yes, this is a plastic dispenser but my friends and acquaintences in the medical and water purification business all agree this plastic doesn't leach into the water. Others have commented on the PUR filters and water quality and the taste exceeds many national filtered water brands I pass in the shopping aisles every week. I secretly take pleasure at the money I don't spend on all these jugs and bottles now. I have faithfully followed the manufacturers recommendations on filter replaceent and the severe taste critics living here under the same roof (daughters) unanimously agree that it passes their discerning palates for refreshment and nose for clarity. Well if that isn't a ringing endorsement. Amazon price best.
